Pemba
Pemba Island is a real insider tip for your Tanzania vacation! While Zanzibar is well known, only a few people have ever heard of Pemba Island. The island of Pemba is located about 60 kilometers north of Zanzibar and is also called "the evergreen island" thanks to its ...
... lush vegetation and magnificent natural landscape.
It is surrounded by turquoise blue sea water with a rich marine life in the nearby coral reefs. The so-called Pemba Channel - the body of water between Pemba and the mainland - is considered one of the last large untouched areas for divers and deep-sea anglers. Deep incisions in the Pemba Island channel mean that the archipelago is crisscrossed by life-giving underwater currents, which provide the unusual abundance of fish and lush coral vegetation that make Pemba so unique.
White sandy beaches, rocky cliffs, the Ngezi rainforest, small, original villages and wonderful, untouched coral reefs underwater everywhere make Pemba an interesting travel destination.
The cozy island is about 80 kilometers long and 20 kilometers wide. Pemba is hillier than Zanzibar and because of the fertile soil you will see many fields with all kinds of different crops, such as rice, cloves, coconuts, bananas, cassava and beans.
